Book Review: The Other Log of Phileas Fogg ~ Philip José Farmer, 1973
Not exactly what i expected.
I thought that Farmer was going to give us some insight into the inconsistencies in the original “Around the World in Eighty Days”. (Of course it has been argued that some of these inconsistencies have more to do with translation problems than anything else…)
But instead of getting a “look behind the curtain” we get a completely out of left field story of waring aliens on Earth in the victorian era. Fogg, of course, is one of them.
To keep the “what the heck” factor high the arch-nemesis for the story is Captain NEMO (who also happens to be Sherlock Holmes’ rival James Moriarty per H.W. Starr’s theory on the characters).
In the end not really what I was looking for, but I respect the complete gonzo attitude of the novel.
(PS: Despite the cover there is no airship anywhere in the novel. *sigh*)
